A Whole New Mind[Portfolio - Empathy](169~176)

1. What surprised me ?
- Doctors taking acting classes to understand and deepen their Empathy was quite interesting

2. What did you already know??
-I remember reading a book about reading other peoplès body-language. The book was about the importance of reading other peoplès body-language

3. New Words

validity - the state or quality of being valid

regimen - a regulated course, as of diet, exercise, or manner of living

bona fide - made, done, presented in good faith

inquiry - a seeking or request for truth, information, or knowledge

4. What changes will you make ?
- When I grow up, I want to take an acting class. I also want to do more volunteering.

-Volunteering at Langley Memorial Hospital was really good experience for me.

-Time
There are many things that I want to do, but I feel that there aren't enough time. Taking an acting class and volunteering requires a lot of time. I want more time!!! so I can do everything before I die.

A Whole New Mind (Chapter 7, 152~168)


1. What surprised me ?
- I was surprised by the fact that how empathy can save one person's life. One doctor listened to her patient and saved him, while the other doctor did not. This shows me that doctors do need an empathy.

2. What did you already know??
-I knew that there are some people, who studies other people's face(face reading skills). It is really cool and I also want to learn it. I want to look at other people's face and read their feelings; thoughts.

3. New Words

intuit - to know by intuition

snide - derogatory in a nasty, insinuating manner

4. What changes will you make ?
-I will pay more attention to others' facial expressions, because I like to tease other people yet I do not know when to stop. I am sure that their facial expression will tell me when to stop it. :)

- The dark side of empathy?.... what if we use Empathy for bad things??

7. Word of the day
- attention

because... it might sounds weird but to me Empathy is like paying more attention. If we want to stand in others' shoes, and to see with their eyes, we have to pay attention to them. If we want to read their facial expressions, then we have to pay attention to their face. That is why, my word of the day is "attention".

A Whole New Mind [ Portfolio - Symphony ](145~151)



1. What has surprised you ?
-The fact that, listening to symphonies is an excellent way to develop my powers of Symphony surprised me.

2. What did you already know??
-I knew that we sometimes have to try new things to be creative.

enliven - to make active

aerial - produced by the air

prominent - outstanding, seen easily, particularly noticeable

4. What changes will you make ?
-I will try to examine "what's between, beyond, and around it"(150).

- where is the proof?.....

-It took me 3 minutes to find a negative space... I couldn't see it.

-I am doing poetry in my english class. I want to read "Metaphors We Live By" by George Lakoff and Mark Johson.
